Lumières : carte blanche à Christian Lacroix

The exhibition Lumières : carte blanche à Christian Lacroix is a study of juxtapositions. 

There are a lot of lenses that make up this exhibition. The Musée Cognacq-Jay is a small museum featuring 18th century art and décor, assembled by an early 20th century collector. This exhibition then adds the layer of having Christian Lacroix, a contemporary designer contributing his view on the objects and their legacy today. 

The result is an interesting coming together of decorative arts, fashion, painting, photography, sculpture, and playful scenography.

Juxtapositions

The most exciting parts of the exhibition are where the multiple viewpoints collide. My favorite aspect was the clever juxtapositions of 18th century and 21st century sensibilities. A pair of Manolo Blahniks next to a leathery pair of ancient high heels; a Barbie surrounded by 18th century porcelain children.
